Like many trainers, I have been fascinated by animals all of my life. I was raised in a pet-loving home where the pets were treated like family. There was always some creature around - dogs, cats, rats, birds or fish. During college, that lifelong admiration of animals led me to the Exotic Animal Training and Management Program at Moorpark College in Moorpark, California, the only accredited animal training course in the world. Accepting only 50 students a year to learn about and manage a zoo of over 170 exotic and domestic animals on top of a full course load, the program was intense, to say the least. But I was fortunate enough to have my loving and hard-working husband support me as I put in 7-day weeks for months on end to pursue my passion. I was given the
opportunity to train an incredible variety of exotic animals and study animal behavior, training methods, veterinary medicine and animal care. I had the privilege of studying under some of the leaders of the animal field, including the co-founder of the Animal Behavior Management Alliance (ABMA), the former Director of the Los Angeles Zoo, the former Treasurer of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the former Chief Veterinarian of the Los Angeles Zoo, and many others. I learned the latest techniques in animal training which utilize natural behaviors and work with what motivates each individual animal, rather than training with force. In the end I finally found my calling: dogs. After graduation, I took a temporary position as a veterinary technician and pursued a career in dog training. I have been a dog trainer ever since and I love it! There are few things as amazing as the bond that is shared between dogs and humans. Dogs cherish our leadership and companionship. And as people we benefit from their unconditional love. Through training I have seen the rewarding result of redefining the relationship between dog and owner in order that they can communicate more effectively with each other. With the owner in a position of leadership, and a dog able to trust in his owner for guidance, both can lead a happier and much more peaceful life. My hope is that I can help you achieve that wonderful and rewarding relationship with your dog.

I have always had pets in my house. Unfortunately, my family didn't really understand what it meant to be a "pet owner." We had taken in a stray bulldog mix named Tina who was a boy's best friend, especially when being chased around the backyard by an angry mother. Tina would chase after my mother if she saw her coming after me with her sandal! Well, my mother decided it was time to take Tina to the park and let her go. I also had two other great strays Bear and Queany, but when they became too unruly they were also taken to the park and let loose…. Come to think of it, whenever my mother grew tired of taking care of my pets it was always time for a trip to the park!

I fell into professional dog training by way of marriage and have since learned how much of a difference it makes to have a well trained dog! I have always loved dogs, but growing up I had learned that whenever a pet becomes an inconvenience you just…. take it to the park, or give it away, or put it to sleep, etc. Professional dog training offers dog owner's a much happier option. A few
easy steps and a lot of dedication, and people can learn to work with their dogs and enjoy having them around. At CK9 we don’t just train dogs, we teach dogs and their owners how to communicate with each other. We want every owner to learn that pets can be a wonderful part of your life as long as you're willing to commit to them, and part of that commitment involves teaching your dog how to be a great friend. Having personally been through the giving-up-on-the-dog experience, I am particularly passionate about educating dog owners on how to have their best friend fit their life.

What makes CK9 different?
Fish, the Chiwarrior, Professional Dog in Training
Homestay Resident

Our newest edition to the CK9 family. Fish, the Chiwarrior, is a chihuahua/toy fox terrier mix. At only 5 1/2 pounds he's quite the pocket dog. But he packs a lot of spunk! His favorite pastimes include squeaking toys, thrashing them to death, and running around madly collecting every toy in the house.

Fish came at our home at nearly 4 months of age, and unfortunately missed out on early socialization skills. He is currently in training to become a talented professional distraction and socialization master. His current challenges are to conquer the basics and to be more sociable with strangers. You may hear his fearsome bark when you come by! But once he warms up to a new face, we get to see his potential! Fish enjoys his new occupation and is happy to participate in training and playtime.

Come by for a visit and Fish will be happy to demonstrate his training progress so that you can have a taste of what you're dog can do!

My love for dogs made me venture into the challenging world of professional dog training. I have had dogs all of my life, poodles, a chow mix, and now I have a golden retriever and black labrador. Becoming a dog trainer wasn't always my plan. I first went to Whittier College and majored in political science, and then to law school. But through all that I found out that I wanted to go out and be in nature, not work in front of a desk all day. I decided to move my life in a totally different route! I decided to go through dog training school. I got a job at a local pet store in Garden Grove, CA. I worked there for six months and then got a job working as an office assistant at a dog training center. While working with pets to gain hands-on experience, I enrolled in the Animal Behavior College. I have enjoyed being with all different kinds of dogs ever since! I enjoy working with any type of dog - all breeds, and all sizes. The most rewarding part of my job is getting to meet many different types of people and interacting
with various types of dogs. The most challenging part of my job is that very same fact! Everybody has different routines, schedules and commitments; so my job is to make your dog a great part of your lifestyle. I have seen great success with my clients. I love my job and I know I enjoy working with whatever challenges it brings. Training up people and their dogs to work together is truly a rewarding experience!
